CachyOS Gets an August 2026 Update and Readies a Server Edition
Translated by a model; the original is in Russian.
The CachyOS project, known for its performance focus on an Arch Linux base, has unveiled its latest update of the year to its installation images. Beyond the usual improvements to the desktop version, the developers continue preparing a future server edition of the distribution — CachyOS Server Edition.
It is precisely with an eye toward that edition that the August release brings a number of fixes and refinements to the command-line (CLI) installer. The desktop wasn't forgotten either: the graphical installer and the CachyOS welcome screen both received enhancements.
The Move to Rust and Zig
A notable share of the changes concerns switching the implementation languages of key components. The backend of the chwd kernel manager has been rewritten from C++ to Rust. The Cachy Update system-tray applet, which handles updates, has also been ported to Rust. And Shelly, the standard graphical package manager, has swapped C# for Zig.
Beyond that, the update includes a host of bug fixes and refinements, along with an updated CachyOS wiki — in particular, its gaming guide.
You can download the fresh images and read the details on the project's website.
