The Debian Project has announced the release of the final regular update for Debian 12, known by the codename “bookworm.” As befits a stable release, the update mostly amounts to fixes for security vulnerabilities.

This does not mean the end of support for the distribution: updates under the Long Term Support (LTS) program for bookworm will keep coming out all the way until 2028. It is, however, the regular update cycle for this version that ends here.

In light of this, the developers note that Debian users still running bookworm may want to consider moving to a more recent release.

Notably, that same weekend saw an update for Debian 13, known as “trixie” — and many of the fixes in it coincide with those that went into the final release for bookworm.
