Grokipedia — an online encyclopedia with articles generated by xAI's artificial intelligence — appears not to have been updated since April 24. That's the conclusion reached by Lawfare, whose investigation is recounted by The Verge. “As far as we can tell, not a single article has been changed in more than three months,” the report states.

Elon Musk launched the service with great fanfare, promising it would be a “serious improvement” over Wikipedia. Version v0.1 debuted in October 2025 with an initial set of 885,000 articles. By November, v0.2 had appeared, and the total number of entries, if the grokipedia.com/live page is to be believed, had passed six million. Yet on that same page, in the “Recent changes” section, hangs a terse notice: “No real-time edits currently available.”

Edits vanish into the void

Technically, nothing has been switched off: a user can still propose a new article or a correction to an existing one. It's just that the proposals seem to disappear into thin air. Lawfare examined both popular and rarely visited pages and found no trace of updates. In a sample of 34,519 pages that had received at least one edit, there were 225,496 recommended corrections — and over the past three months not one of them had been either accepted or rejected.

The Verge's request for comment to xAI went unanswered. On Reddit and X, users are increasingly asking whether the project has “died.” Lawfare itself noticed an indirect sign of waning interest: Musk's most recent post mentioning Grokipedia is dated February.

The result is a curious picture. An encyclopedia meant to be a living, self-updating alternative to Wikipedia and its army of volunteer editors is now distinguished from its rival by exactly one thing: at Wikipedia, edits are approved by real people, whereas at Grokipedia — it seems no one does anymore.
