Version 2.8.0 of the KeePassXC password manager has been released. The developers describe it as a feature-rich update: alongside numerous bugfixes and security-related updates, it introduces a number of long-awaited capabilities.

Major changes

The headline technical step is the application's migration from the Qt5 library to Qt6. For Linux users, a notable addition is Auto-Type under Wayland sessions — a feature that had been increasingly missed as the protocol spread.

Other new arrivals include configurable keyboard shortcuts, remote database synchronization via external tools, and quick-unlock mechanisms: by password on macOS and through Polkit on Linux.

ARM64 support

Version 2.8.0 is the first for which the project ships native ARM64 builds for Windows. For Linux, an experimental AppImage for the AArch64 (that is, ARM64) architecture has been prepared.

The developers list the full set of new features, major changes, and bugfixes in the changelog.
