Google has reported another milestone: its Gemini app recently crossed the threshold of one billion monthly active users. The news came from company CEO Sundar Pichai in a post on the social network X, where he called Gemini one of Google's fastest-growing products. According to him, it is now the 14th company service to reach an audience of one billion people.

This pace puts Gemini on par with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which hit one billion monthly active users back in June.

Google has been steadily building Gemini into its products — from Search and Workspace to Android and the standalone app. The company separately highlights the success of AI Mode in Search, which also has more than one billion monthly active users worldwide. The latest figure, however, refers specifically to the Gemini app and does not count AI users coming through other channels.

At the same time, Google continues to roll out new models and features, among them Gemini 3.5 Flash — a model that, according to the company, is designed to improve coding and to handle tasks for autonomous AI agents.

Google also shared data on exactly how people work with the assistant. 63% of Gemini users interact with it directly by voice. In addition, the service generates more than 150 million images every day.

Gemini's growth isn't limited to Google's own platforms: according to the company, the service already has more than 100 million active users on iOS.

The milestone was reached just after the company's second-quarter 2026 report, which cited more than 950 million monthly users and noted that the number of daily active users had tripled over the year. The announcement also came on the eve of the Made by Google event, where new Gemini-powered features for Pixel devices are expected to be announced.
