Siemens has decided to wind down the OpenRadioss project and close access to it, a move that lands as a major disappointment for the open-source community.

OpenRadioss was the open-source version of Radioss, the industry-leading finite element solver developed by Altair Engineering. In 2022 Altair released this edition under the GNU AGPL License, giving engineers and researchers free access to a tool normally available only in commercial form.

Last year Siemens acquired Altair Engineering. The new owner has now shut the door on OpenRadioss entirely, ending the project's development and cutting off access to it.
