The Debian developers have unveiled the 13.7 update to the stable “Trixie” branch. This is not a major new release but a fresh set of installation media that bundles all the current security and bug fixes accumulated since the previous point release. Anyone already running the system and regularly installing updates has no particular reason to download the images — the new media will be most useful for a clean install.

What's fixed

The update closes dozens of vulnerabilities across a whole range of packages. Among the affected components are the Linux kernel, the Chromium browser engine, the NTFS-3G driver, the RoundCube webmail client, the Samba file server, the PHP interpreter, the Postfix mail server, the Zip archiver, the Cockpit control panel and the Wireshark traffic analyzer. The full list covers many other packages as well.

Beyond security, the release also fixes functional bugs. In particular, a possible crash in Akonadi search has been fixed, downloading and updating add-ons (“spices”) for the Cinnamon desktop environment has been sorted out, and the llvm-toolchain-22 package has been added to build newer versions of Chromium. The list is rounded out by various other minor updates.

What's next

Details about the release and download links are available on the project's official website. The next major release, Debian 14, is expected in the second half of 2027 — until then the “Trixie” branch will continue to receive point updates like this one.
