GhostBSD 26.2 is out as the latest feature release of this FreeBSD-based desktop operating system.

A New Base

The previous version, GhostBSD 26.1, was built on FreeBSD 15.0. With 26.2, the developers have moved to FreeBSD 15.1-RELEASE, the current stable FreeBSD branch. FreeBSD 15.1 itself was released in June with updated device drivers and other improvements.

Desktop and Installer

The default desktop environment remains MATE, running on top of the XLibre display server.

The headline change in this release is a new installer. It adds dedicated sections for configuring ZFS and networking. It can also set up full disk encryption with GELI right during installation.

Other Changes

The installation ISO has been optimized and is now smaller. MATE gains a Ctrl+Alt+T shortcut for quickly opening a terminal. USB HID devices are now supported by default via USBHID.

Downloads and further details on the release are available on the project's website, GhostBSD.org.
