The NetBSD project has announced the release of NetBSD 10.2, another update to the UNIX-like operating system renowned for its portability. The new version brings no major features and is devoted entirely to fixes and small improvements accumulated since NetBSD 10.1.

Userland

The calendars have been updated with the correct dates of moving holidays for 2026. In the build.sh build script, various compilation issues with newer GCC versions have been resolved, and a new show-revisionid operation was added that extracts a marker for recreating the source tree, depending on the revision control system in use. Reproducible builds now also work correctly when -P is passed on the command line and MKREPRO_TIMESTAMP is set manually via -V.

The ftp(1) client gains a connect command as a synonym for open, and its buffer handling has been simplified to improve performance. rmdir(1) picks up a -v option, while telnet(1) receives fixes for several security issues.

System utilities

The file-system checker fsck_ffs(8) can now handle file systems with more than 2³² blocks. The built-in httpd(8) server now serves .iso files as application/octet-stream, with memory leaks fixed and documentation enhanced. The makefs(8) utility now honours the -m option that sets the maximum disc size for cd9660 images, and showmount(8) always prints a space after an exported directory. The syslogd(8) logging daemon also received reliability fixes.

A complete list of changes is available in the official release announcement. The NetBSD-10.2-amd64.iso image is about 624 MB and can be downloaded, including via torrent.
