OBS Studio 33.0 Lands With Major CEF Jump, Reworked Plugin Loading
Translated by a model; the original is in Russian.
OBS Studio 33.0 is out — the latest major release of the popular open-source, cross-platform application for video recording and live streaming.
Two years of changes in one jump
The headline feature is what the developers call a "massive update" to the Chromium Embedded Framework, the embedded Chromium engine OBS relies on for browser sources and widgets. The project has moved from CEF 127 straight to CEF 150, absorbing more than two years' worth of changes at once.
The plugin loading code has also been reworked: first-party and third-party plugins are now organized differently, alongside other improvements in this area.
Other changes
Among the smaller fixes are better source snapping in the video preview and more sensible behavior for numeric spinboxes. On ARM64 platforms with NVIDIA GPUs, hardware NVENC encoding is now enabled.
The release also adds support for the newest NVIDIA Broadcast SDKs and improves detection of full-screen games in Game Capture mode.
Support for Ubuntu 24.04 LTS has been retired. The full changelog and downloads are available via GitHub.
