Wine 11.15: Wayland fixes and a 20-year-old bug closed at last
Translated by a model; the original is in Russian.
Wine 11.15 is out — the latest experimental release of the open-source project that lets you run Windows applications and games on Linux. The release landed on Saturday rather than the usual Friday, but the overall two-week development cadence is holding steady.
What's new
The release adds an implementation of new KDF algorithms in BCrypt, support for building ARM64EC in MinGW mode, and expands the set of format conversions in WindowsCodex. A notable addition is support for local NTLM authentication: the msv1_0 code can now perform NTLM authentication in-process, and if problems arise it falls back to using the external ntlm_auth utility. This concerns the legacy Microsoft NT LAN Manager protocol, once used for authentication and integrity checking.
Fixes
Wine 11.15 is most interesting on the fixes side — 41 of them in all. Two concern Wayland. The first resolves a problem in the EGL code that made colors look washed out: the culprit was a double sRGB conversion. The second fixes image displacement in fullscreen applications with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Bug number 4811 deserves a special mention — and its low number alone speaks volumes. The report is dated March 2006: it described MSXML3 misbehaving with the XMLDOMDocument object. Twenty years later, the bug is finally closed.
The remaining fixes touch on all sorts of applications — from games to WordPerfect 7 and QuickBooks 2009. You can download the build and read the details at WineHQ.org.
